    Genus Description - Perennial herbs. Leaves with abundant cystoliths at maturity. Flowers in terminal, unilateral spikes or racemes, each flower subtended by 2 small bracts and 2 bracteoles; calyx with 5 linear or lanceolate, equal sepals; corolla lilac, rose, white, or light yellow, funnel-shaped, zygomorphic, with 5 rounded lobes; stamens 4, didynamous; stigma 2-lobed or capitate. Capsule ellipsoid or clubshaped; seeds 2-4 per capsule, lenticular.
