Description
Species Description - Tree to 20 m. high; branchlets hollow at internodes, castaneous. sparsely. rarely densely, tawny-strigulose, occasionally glaucous, the bark aromatic: petioles 1-2 cm. long, slender, glaucous, glabrous to sparsely strigulose; leaf-blades 9-16 cm. long, 3-8 cm. wide, subchartaceous, elliptic, not plane, the tips acute, the bases obtuse to rounded, rarely truncate or cordate, the upper surface glabrous, greenish, the lower surface brownish, glaucous, sparsely strigulose, the costa slightly impressed above, prominent beneath, the 8 12 pairs of primary nerves divergent at 50-60°, obscure above, prominulous beneath, the reticulation obscure on both surfaces. Inflorescence an axillary panicle, equal to or longer than the subtending leaf; peduncle 5-8 cm. long, glabrous, glaucous, the rachis 4-7 cm. long; pedicels 2-3.5 mm. long, glabrous, glaucous; flowers 2.5-3 mm. long; outer perianth-segments 1-1.5 mm. long, 1-1.5 mm. wide, ovate, glaucous, glabrous to very sparsely strigulose without, glabrous within; inner perianth-segments ovate, 2.5-3 mm. long, 2 mm. wide, ovate to elliptic, sparsely strigulose and glaucous without and strigulose within; stamens about 2.5 mm. long, the anthers about 1 mm. long, the filaments 1.5 mm. long, the filaments of series I and II strigulose, the anthers oblong to ovate, quadrilocular; filaments of series III strigulose, the glands subsessile, adnate to the basal 14 of the filament, the anthers oblong, quadrilocular; staminodia of series IV sagittate, 1.5-2 mm. long, lacking terminal bristles; gynoecium glabrous, the ovary subglobose; style 1-1.5 mm. long, slender. Infructescence multifructate; peduncle and pedicels lignescent, slightly thickened; perianth-segments reflexed; fruit 4.5 mm. long, 5.5 mm. wide, depressed-globose.
Distribution and Ecology - Distribution. West-central Bolivia.

Discussion
Type collecdon. O. Buchtien 1725, Mapiri Region, San Carlos, 850 m. (holotype B, isotypes G, NY, US).
Though most closely resembling P. venosa in leaf-shape, glaucescence, pubescence and fruiting characters, P. buchtienii is distinguished by its smaller flowers and fruits, and by its Bolivian distribution.
