Description
Species Description - Plants minute or small; green or yellow-green. Stem irregularly and rather sparsely branched in one plane; central strand present or not, slender; pseudoparaphyllia narrow-lanceolate to narrow-triangular or filamentose; paraphyllia absent; axillary hairs with 1-3-celled upper part, this hyaline when young, the upper cells mostly linear or short-linear. Stem leaves 0.4-0.7 mm long, laxly inserted, patent to spreading from erect-patent to almost spreading base, triangular or cordate or narrow-cordate, ± strongly constricted at insertion, narrowing abruptly or gradually to acumen (when narrowing abruptly constituting 60-83% of leaf length), concave, not or hardly decurrent; acumen channeled; apex acuminate; margin denticulate or finely so, sometimes partly entire; costa double and short, ending < 10% way up leaf, rarely ending in an obtuse spine; median laminal cells 18.0-48.5 × 4.0-5.5 µm, incrassate or slightly incrassate, not or slightly porose, smooth or usually having at least some cells distally and abaxially prorate; upper alar cells (transverse-rectangular or) quadrate or rectangular; basal alar cells rectangular or short-rectangular, hardly widened (to 12.0 µm wide); alar group square or short-rectangular, extending from leaf margin (20-)28-33% of distance to leaf middle at insertion. Inner perichaetial leaves narrowing gradually or abruptly to acuminate apex. Seta 10-12 mm long; capsule curved, horizontal. Exostome outside cross-striolate in lower part. Spores 11.0-13.5 µm, finely papillose.

Discussion
Campylophyllum quisqueyanum has been reported from Haiti and the Dominican Republic (e.g., Buck, 1998; Delgadillo et al., 1995). The species is recognized by its small size (stem leaves 0.4-0.7 mm long), its long leaf acumen constituting 60-83% of the leaf length when the leaves narrow abruptly, and the small alar groups that extend from the leaf margin (20-)28-33% of the distance to the leaf middle at insertion. The species could be confused with C. sommerfeltii, which is slightly larger, has a relatively shorter leaf acumen ((40-)43-62% of leaf length), and alar groups that extend 40-50% of the distance from the margin to the leaf middle at insertion.
