Stems terete, glabrous or puberulent, striate, dark brown, sometimes minutely lenticellate. Leaves paripinnate or less often imparipinnate; distal process acicular, 4-5 mm long, carinate along adaxial surface, early deciduous leaving a truncate base; leaflets (2) 4 (5) opposite or alternate, obovate, elliptic, oblong or lanceolate, 4.5-12 × 1.5-4.5 cm, chartaceous-coriaceous, usually with scattered necrotic round spots, glabrous on both surfaces, discolorous (abaxial surface darker), the venation brochidodromus, inconspicuous, plane on both surfaces, midvein prominent on both surfaces, tertiary veins reticulate, the margins entire or slightly undulate, slightly revolute, the apex obtusely acuminate to caudate, glandular-mucronulate, the base usually asymmetrical, obtuse, rounded or obtuse-cuneate; petiolules slightly thickened, 2-5 mm long, glabrous or puberulent, adaxially canaliculate; rachis 2-4(-6) cm long, obtusely angled, adaxially carinate, puberulent; petioles 1.2-3 (4) cm long, slightly flattened, striate, swollen at the very base. Thyrses panicle-shaped, terminal on lateral branches, 8-12 cm long, branches 2-4 cm long; cataphylls deltoid, 1.5-2 mm long, puberulent; axes angled, sulcate, minutely ferruginous pubescent; bracts and bracteoles subulate-lanceolate, 1-1.5 mm long, persistent, minutely ferruginous pubescent; dichasia compound or the distal ones simple; peduncle 2-3 mm long, minutely ferruginous pubescent or tomentulose; pedicels ca. 1.2 mm long, articulate at the base. Calyx 2-2.6 mm long, ferruginous-tomentulose or pubescent, the sepals free to the base, concave, ovate, obtuse or acute at apex, adaxially tomentulose; petals rhombic-ovate, 3-4 mm long, glabrous or sparsely pubescent on both surfaces, the apex acute, the base cuneate; appendages as long as the petals or only 2/3 the length of petals, rhombic-ovate, abaxially papillate, adaxially woolly-pubescent, fused to the petal along its basal margins to form a pocket, truncate at apex; disc annular, 10-lobed, glabrous or sparingly puberulent, ca.0.8 mm tall; stamens 8, the filaments subulate, of equal or unequal lengths, 0.8-2 mm long, glabrous, the anthers 0.5-0.6 mm long, ovoid, glabrous, retuse at apex; ovary nearly conical, tomentose, the stigma capitate, 3-lobed, tomentulose. Fruits ovoid, ferruginous-tomentose, minutely rugose, 2-2.4 cm long, shortly apiculate at apex, the pericarp 1 mm thick, coriaceous, the endocarp sparingly pubescent or glabrous. Seeds ellipsoid, with pale pink or whitish edible, fleshy testa. Embryo not seen.
