    Latin Diagnosis - A T. furfuracea Sandwith foliolis et inflorescentiis lanatis differt.

    Species Description - Tree 8 m tall. Stems nearly terete, sulcate, ferruginous-tomentose. Leaves imparipinnate; distal process early deciduous; leaflets 7, alternate, with lowermost pair opposite, elliptic or nearly so, 10.7-15.5 × 4.2-5.1 cm, rigidly coriaceous, bullate, adaxially glabrous and lustrous, with sunken primary and secondary veins, abaxially densely ferruginous-woolly over the prominent primary and secondary veins, scattered so on the reticulate tertiary veins, the venation brochidodromus, forming a strong continuous intramarginal vein, the margins entire, strongly revolute, the apex obtuse, with a short apiculum, the base obtuse, slightly unequal; petiolules cylindrical, 7-10 mm long, densely ferruginous-tomentose; rachis ca. 10.5 cm long, terete, ferruginous-tomentose, striate; petioles ca. 11.5 cm long, terete, ferruginous-tomentose, striate, slightly enlarged at the very base. Thyrses fasciculate, axillary, ca. 9 cm long; cataphylls apparently lacking; axes nearly terete, ferruginous-woolly; bracts oblong, puberulent, ciliate at margins, 2.5-3 mm long; dichasia compound, sessile; pedicels ca. 1 mm long, articulate at the middle, woolly. Calyx ca. 4 mm long, tomentose, the sepals free to the base, ovate, obtuse at apex; petals (immature) elliptic, ca. 3 mm long, adaxially papillate, abaxially glabrous, except for the pilose base, the apex obtuse, the base cuneate-attenuate; appendages nearly as long as the petals, broadly deltate, adaxially sericeous, abaxially glabrous at base, sericeous toward the apex; disc annular, tomentose, ca. 0.5 mm tall; stamens (immature) 8 or 10, the filaments of equal length, glabrous, the anthers ca. 0.8 mm long, ellipsoid, glabrous, retuse at apex; ovary ferruginous-sericeous, the stigma capitate. Fruits not known.

  • Discussion

    Talisia lanata can be distinguished from all other species of Talisia by the woolly pubescence of inflorescences and abaxial surface of leaflets. No other species of Talisia is known to have this kind of pubescence on its vegetative parts. The specific epithet refers to the indumentum.

    Phenology: Collected in flower during January.
