Description
Description - Plant stemless, flowering 4-6 dm high. Leaves about 9 in a tubular rosette, erect, 4-5 dm long; sheaths narrowly ovate, faintly red-striped, subdensely lepidote beneath with fine appressed brown-centered scales; blades linear, acuminate, 9-25 mm wide, glabrous above, deep green or reddish, the inner ones sometimes purplish toward base. Scape erect, slender; scape-bracts strict, densely imbricate and covering the scape, the lower foliaceous, the upper lanceolate, long-acuminate, stramineous when dry. Inflorescence simple, strobilate, broadly ovoid, few-flowered, 3 cm long, subinvolucrate. Floral bracts broadly elliptic, the outer acute, the inner rounded and apiculate, 15-20 mm long, exceeding the sepals, stramineous and subcoriaceous when dry, striate, glabrous, lustrous; flowers subsessile, 18 mm long, glabrous. Sepals elliptic, subobtuse, 12 mm long, 2-4 mm connate, coriaceous; petals equaling the stamens, yellowish white. Capsule cylindric, 32 mm long; seeds 2.5 mm long; coma ferruginous.
