    Species Description - Shrubs 2-3 m tall, the stems densely stellate-pubescent (hairs 0.2-0.6 mm long), sparser on older stems. Leaf blades ovate or ovate-oblong (juvenile leaves sometimes suborbicular), 4-7 x 3-6 cm, basally cordate, shallowly crenate-serrate, acute, palmately 7-9-nerved, discolorous, densely and softly pubescent on both surfaces; petioles (l-)2-6 cm long, with pubescence like that of stem; stipules filiform, 8-9 mm long. Flowers solitary (or paired) in the leaf axils, the pedicels 2-7 cm long; involucellar bracts usually 9 (less often 8 or 10), 1-1.5 x 1.5-3 mm, softly pubescent, sometimes with glandular hairs intermingled and with a few setae ca. 1 mm long; calyx shorter than the involucel, 8-9 mm long, densely stellate-pubescent and with marginal setae 1 mm long; petals 1.5-2 cm long, coarsely stellate-pubescent externally, yellow with or without a dark center, pubescent on margins of claw; staminal column 7-8 mm long, the filaments 1-2 mm long; styles and stigmas exserted from staminal column but not equaling the corolla. Fruits 7-8 mm diam., verruculate, glabrous; mericarps 4.5-5.5 mm long, dehiscent; seeds 3.5 mm long, striate, glabrous, dark brown.

  • Distribution

    Found in Paraguay and adjacent parts of Bolivia and Brazil, apparently occurring in Paraguay in two separated localities, according to the following citations. The Brazilian collections cited are included only tentatively. The type locality is at 25°15'S, 57°05'W.
