Description
Description - Plant flowering 5 dm or higher. Leaves ca 5 dm long, pale-appressed-lepidote; sheaths elliptic, ample; blades ligulate, rounded and apiculate, 45-55 mm wide, green except the red-brown apex or sometimes tinged with red. Scape erect; scape-bracts densely imbricate, elliptic, subrounded and apiculate. Inflorescence simple, linear, obtuse, to 40 cm long, 8 cm wide, strongly complanate, very densely many-flowered, floral bracts ovate, acute, 40 mm long, 50 mm wide, incurved, sharply carinate, the lowest red, the others yellow with all but the margin finely dark red-brown-punctate; flowers distichous, suberect to spreading, 50 mm long, yellow; pedicels very short and stout. Sepals narrowly elliptic, subobtuse, to 30 mm long, much shorter than the bracts; petals ligulate, bearing 2 scales; stamens and pistil exserted. Coma of the seed white.
