Lamina narrowly (oblong-)elliptic, chartaceous to subcoriaceous, dark brown to olive-green above, brown to greenish-brown below, (7-)9-18(-21) cm long, 3-6.5(-8) cm wide, rather densely to sparsely covered (occasionally glabrous) above with appressed to erect, whitish, often crisped, simple hairs to over 0.5 mm long, rather densely (to sparsely) covered below with appressed, shiny whitish to brownish, simple hairs up to 0.5 mm long, base narrowly to broadly cuneate (to rounded or obtuse), apex acute (to acuminate), the tip itself acute (to obtuse); secondary veins curved (to rarely straight), 13-20 on either side of primary vein, occasionally with short, weak intersecondaries, angles with primary vein 50-65°, loops indistinct to distinct, smallest distance between loops and margin 12 mm, tertiary veins 3-5 per intercosta, weakly percurrent to reticulate. Domatia scarce, indistinct. Inflorescences supra-axillary (to almost leaf-opposed, rarely (pseudo-)axillary), usually at the base of new growth, rarely on short axillary shoots, l-2(-5)-flowered, peduncles, pedicels, outer side of bracts, outer side of sepals (rather) densely covered with appressed, light brown, simple hairs to 0.5 mm long, corolla densely covered with appressed to erect, often somewhat crisped, light brown, simple hairs to 0.5 mm long. Peduncles 0-2 mm long, 1.5-2 mm in diam., fruiting peduncles to 5 mm long, 2-3 mm in diam. Pedicels 15-50(-80) mm long, (0.5-)1-2{-3} mm in diam., fruiting pedicels 2-3 {-6} mm in diam. Bracts deltate to triangular, 0.5-1.5 mm long, upper bract basal to inserted in the lower 1/3 of the pedicel, or absent. Flowers green, turning yellow, inner base purplish, in vivo. Discussion
This species comes close to Rollinia sericea, which is of a much more southerly distribution. The main differences are found in the indument on the leaves, and in the fruits. The leaves of R. laurifolia, in contrast to those of R. sericea, are nearly always distinctly (though mostly sparsely) hairy on the upper side. The fruit of R. laurifolia is composed of 50-100 carpels, and that of R. sericea of 100-150 carpels.
