    Species Description - Tree up to 10.0 m high. Branchlets glabrous. Leaves oblong to elliptic-oblong, more rarely elliptic or obovate-elliptic, apex broadly attenuate or obtuse to rounded, base very broadly attenuate to rounded, chartaceous to subcoriaceous, rarely firmly so, glabrous, margin often slightly revolute, undulate, or subentire, (4.0-)5.0-8.0(-10.0) cm long, (2.0-)2.5-4.0(-5.0) cm broad, 3-nerved from the base, the pair of lateral nerves ascending more or less half the length of the lamina, prominent on both faces, other higher lateral shorter nerves curved-ascending and looping within the margin 2-3 (-4) pairs also prominent on both faces, veins transverse to rather oblique, forming with the veinlets a lax reticulation which is slightly raised on both faces or mainly beneath; petiole 6.0-10.0 mm long. Racemes axillary or subterminal, solitary, 10.0-20.0 cm long incl peduncle (5.0-6.0 cm); rhachis and pedicels (2.0 mm) finely yellowish-puberulous; bracts ovate, scarious, minute. Calyx lobes 2, ovate to oblong-ovate, reflexed, glabrous, 2.0-3.0 mm long. Stamens 6-8(-10); filaments 2.0 mm long; anthers 1.0 mm long. Disk 1.0 mm high. Ovary ovoid-conical, glabrous; style thick, 1.0 mm long; stigma subobtuse, hardly 3-lobu-late. Fruit globose-subtrigonous; seeds numerous, angular, shiny, 1.0 mm long; testa foveolate.

    Distribution and Ecology - Cuba (Oriente), limited to the Sierra Maestra and Sierra del Cristal; in forest, 600-1100 m alt.
