    Description - Plant stemless, flowering 14-17 cm high. Leaves many, erect or the outer spreading, to 2 dm long, covered with appressed cinereous scales; sheaths distinct, narrowly ovate, 2-3 cm long; blades very narrowly linear, filiform-attenuate, involute-subulate, about 1 mm in diameter at base. Scape erect or ascending, very slender; scape-bracts imbricate and covering the scape, ovate with long foliaceous blades, red, densely lepidote. Inflorescence densely paniculate from a few branches, 4-6 cm long; primary bracts lance-ovate, filiform-acuminate, usually much exceeding the lower branches, red, lepidote; spikes laxly 2-1-flowered; rhachis very slender, geniculate. Floral bracts lanceolate, acute, about equaling the sepals, convex, membranaceous, nerved, lepidote; flowers subsessile. Sepals lanceolate, acuminate, 12-15 mm long, carinate and short-connate posteriorly, membranaceous, lepidote; petals blue, the blade spreading, suborbicular, 5 mm long; stamens included; filaments enlarged toward apex, slightly if at all plicate. Capsule slenderly cylindric, 25-30 mm long.
