    Description - Dioecious shrub or small tree, rarely up to 6.0 m tall. Branchlets stoutish, ca 4.0 mm diam, rather densely and shortly pubescent at tips, glabrescent below. Leaves oblong, apex acuminate for ca 2.0 cm, subacute, base attenuate, very base truncate-obtuse, (sub)coriaceous, impunctate, glabrous on both faces except some substrigose hairs on midrib and lateral nerves beneath, subserrate-dentate to -denticulate (1.0 mm), 12.0-24.0 cm long, 5.0-9.0 cm broad, lateral nerves ca 10 pairs slightly curved, ascending, obscurely looping within the margin, prominent on both faces but especially beneath, reticulation of veins and veinlets rather lax, a little raised beneath; petiole robust, 3.0-5.0 mm long, ca 2.0 mm diam; stipules subulate, pubescent, 3.0-5.0 mm long, [male] flowers axillary, several in a fascicle, the latter sometimes from apex of a very short peduncle; pedicels slender, puberulous, 1.0-1.3 cm long. Sepals 3, broadly elliptic to subrotund, sparsely hairy dorsally, 10.0-12.0 mm long, 12.0-16.0 mm broad. Petals ca 10, unguiculate-obovate, often erose at apex, pubescent dorsally, creamy white, 13.0-16.0 mm long, 12.0-13.0 mm broad. Stamens ca 20; filaments pubescent, 1.8-2.5 mm long; anthers narrowly ellipsoid, 2.0 mm long. [female] flowers solitary or in pairs in the upper axils. Sepals and petals similar to those of the [male]. Ovary globose, densely set with soft fleshy short aculei; styles 5, stigmas multi-lacerate. Fruit globular, (2.0-)3.0 cm diam, densely armed with stiff subuliferous laxly hairy bristles 5.0-8.0 mm long; pericarp lignescent, ca 1.0 mm thick.
