Description - Small tree, 3.0-6.0(-13.0) m tall; trunk up to 14.0 cm diam; branchlets striate, grayish-corticate, tips densely covered with minute resinous glands as are both faces of the leaves and the inflorescences. Leaves oblong to broadly elliptic, apex subcaudate-acuminate for 1.5-2.5 cm, base broadly cuneate to obtuse or rounded, subcoriaceous, minutely glandular-resinous-punctate and covered with fine appressed hairs all over the undersurface, vernicose and glossy on both faces, undulate to entire, 10.0-24.0 cm long, 5.0-11.5 cm broad, lateral nerves 5-7 pairs (the lowest pair almost from base of lamina), curved-ascending and rather obscurely inarching within the margin, prominent beneath, reticulation of the veins rather coarse and but slightly raised beneath, that of the veinlets almost inconspicuous; petiole (2.0-)2.5-6.5 cm long. Racemes from the upper 1-3 axils, 4-7-flowered; rhachis stoutish, 1.0-2.5(-3.0) cm long; pedicels 1.5-2.5(-3) cm long; flower buds obovoid-clavate, 1.2-1.5 cm long, 0.6-0.7 cm broad. Sepals 3, obovate-oblong, cucullate, 1.2-1.5 cm long, 0.5 cm broad. Petals 8, oblong-lanceolate, subacute, white, 12.0-13.0 mm long, 3.0-4.0 mm broad. Stamens ca 40; filaments slender, glabrous except their lower 1/5-1/4, 5.0-7.0 mm long; anthers puberulous especially along the margin, 3.0-4.0 mm long. Ovary sessile, densely echinate with rather soft and straight bristles, glutinous-puberulent; style resinous-glutinous at base, glabrous above, ca 8.0 mm long. Capsule globular, red brown when ripe, distantly set with straight bristles (2.0-4.0 mm) or their persistent conical basal part only, (2.5-)3.0-5.0 cm diam incl the bristles; pericarp fibrose, 2.0-4.0 mm thick. Seeds numerous, ca 1.0 cm long, 0.6-0.7 cm broad, with red aril.

Eastern part of Amazonian Brazil; in lowland forest, occasionally in secondary forest.
