Description
Species Description - Plants 2–10 dm from a usually rather short, praemorse rhizome; stem naked or with 1 or 2(–5) small lvs; herbage glaucous, sparsely long-setose or subglabrous, the peduncles becoming stipitate-glandular and somewhat stellate; basal lvs oblanceolate, 3–18 cm (petiole included) × 0.5–2 cm, 5–12 times as long as wide; infl corymbiform, compact to fairly open; invol 6–8 mm, hispid with blackish, mostly gland-tipped hairs and somewhat stellate; achenes 1.5–2 mm, truncate; 2n=36, 45. A weed of fields, meadows, pastures, and roadsides; native of Europe, now well established nearly throughout our range. June–Sept. (H. florentinum; H. praealtum)
