Description
Species Description - Similar to the larger forms of no. 37 [Aster oblongifolius Nutt.], but more openly branched, with smaller lvs, and with conspicuously larger heads, the invol 10-15 mm, its bracts wider and often more imbricate, the outer sometimes blunter; rays 12-25 mm; stem rather sparsely or sometimes scarcely pubescent, with usually spreading hairs, as well as glandular upward; 2n=60. Sandy places, often in pine woods or old fields; e. of the mts. in Va. and N.C.
