Distribution (from PLANTAE): This family is mainly tropical and subtropical. Most species of the largest genus, Xyris, are concentrated in North and South America, fewer in Australia, Asia and Africa. Abolboda and Orectanthe, as well as the fairly recently discovered genus Achlyphila.
