    Distribution (from PLANTAE): The largest genera Juncus and Luzula are widely distributed in the Northern Hemisphere as well as in other parts of the world. The smaller genera are most strongly represented in the Southern Hemisphere, and there are good reasons to believe that the family has a South American origin.
