    Distribution (from PLANTAE): This family is mainly distributed in tropical and subtropical marshes and freshwater and brackish water habitats. Three genera are marine aquatics: Enhalus, Thalassia, and Halophila. Genera which reach into temperate climates are Hydrocharis, Stratiotes, Elodea, Hydrilla, Limnobium, Egeria, and Vallisneria.
