    Distribution (from PLANTAE): This family is pantropical and forms a frequent constituent in montane shallow pools or swamps, especially on sandy ground. The greatest concentration of species is in South America and Africa. Eriocaulon is quite widespread with outposts in western Europe. Lachnocaulon is North American.
