    Diagnosis: Pileus red, dry, tomentose. Stipe mostly red, reticulate. Spores ovoid, alveolate-reticulate.

    Ectomycorrhiza: Dipterocarpaceae, Fagaceae?

    Distribution: The type species of the genus is widespread in E Asia (China) to SE Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia).

    Commentary: Red in color with a reticulate stipe surface, the species has the shortest spores. Other red-colored taxa in the genus will be distinguished by longer and differently shaped spores or possess a different ornamentation (H. fruticicola).
