Type: Brazil. Minas Gerais: prope Paraibara. Claussen 334 (holotype: P, isotype: G).

Description: Trees up to 3 m tall; young branches rounded, without interpetiolar ridges, densely covered by ferruginous, sessille-stellate trichomes. Leaves discolorous; petioles 2-4.5 cm; blades 6-16 x 2.5-9 cm, ovate-elliptic, apex acute to acuminate, base rounded to cordulate, margin entire to slightly serrulate, usually cilliate, membranaceous, very delicate, longitudinal nerves 3, with an additional, marginal pair, basal, but stellate trichomes on the main nerves, abaxial surface with moderate, ferrugineous, indument consisting of sessile-stellate to dendritic trichomes of long, stiff arms, up to 0.6 mm diam. Panicles 7.5-10 x 7-11 cm, glomerulate, usually the glomerules so close to each other that looks like a spiguete, terminal, densely covered by sessile-stellate to dendritic trichomes, usually aristate, ca. 0.2 mm diam.; bracts and bracteoles lanceolate, up to 1.5 mm long, caducous. Flowers 4-merous. Hypanthium 1.1-1.3 mm long, campanulate, inner surface glabrous, outer sparsely covered by sessile-stellate trichomes, 0.4-0.5 mm diam.; torus glabrous. Calyx lobate, caducous in fruit, inner surface glabrous, outer moderately covered by trichomes similar to the ones on the hypanthium; tube 0.3 mm long, inner lobes triangular, 0.2-0.3 mm long, outer teeth subulate, 0.1-0.2 mm long. Petals 1.8-2.2 x 0.9-1 mm. Stamens white, slightly dimorphic; filaments 2-2.3 mm long, glabrous; connectives 0.3-0.5 prolonged below the thecae, unappendaged or with two small, ventral, lobes; anthers 0.7-1.1 mm long, oblong, with a single terminal, ventrally displaced, moderate pore, ca. 0.2 mm diam. Ovary 0.8-1 mm long, 1/2 to 1/3 adherent to the hypanthium, 2-3-locular, apex glabrous; style 2.3-3 mm long, straight, punctiform, glabrous. Fruits up to 4.7 x 5.4 mm, orange, 2 seeds.
