  • Description

    Description: Evergreen erect shrub to ca. 1.5 m tall. Leaf blades elliptic to ovate, 0.9-4.5 x 0.4-2.3 cm, ± flat, coriaceous; margin plane to slightly revolute toward petiole, apical portion clearly to obscurely and irregularly toothed to entire; petiole 2-6.5 mm long. Flowers on pedicels 2-5 mm long. Calyx lobes 0.7-1.6 x 0.4-0.9 mm, abaxial surface glabrous to very pubescent (near base); corolla urceolate-cylindrical, 3-4.5(-5) x 2-3(-3.5) mm; filaments 2.5-3.5 mm long, anthers 0.7-1 mm long. Capsule ovoid, 3-4.5 x 2.5-4 mm.

    Distribution: Endemic to Puerto Rico, along the upper slopes and summit of Cerro Mariquita of the Sierra Bermeja (Mpio. Cabo Rojo), in dry rocky scrub to low forest on chert, at 250-301 m elev. Flowering in October.
