Description: Leaf blades ovate or lanceolate, the length to width ratio < 4
Common names: Panama: paco
Distribution: This subspecies ranges from eastern Panama into the Chocó and the Magdalena Valley of Colombia
Ecology: This subspecies is an understory tree of non-flooded wet and moist forests
Phenology: Flowering collections come from March, April, May, and June and fruits have been gathered in March, April, May, June, and November

Dispersal: No observations recorded but probably similar to that described for G. superba.
Taxonomic notes: This subsp. differs from subsp. nana by the much wider lower leaf blade length to width ratio. Additional collections of subsp. nana may show that the two subspecies should be recognized as separate species.
Uses: None recorded
