Type: Brazil. Collector unknown s.n. (holotype: K [barcode 536312]).

Description: Trees up to 4 m tall; young branches flattened, without interpetiolar ridges, densely covered by a ferruginous indument, consisted of sessille-stellate to stipitate-stellate to dendritic trichomes. Leaves discolorous; petioles 1-4.5 cm; blades 5-19(25) x 2-10.5 cm, elliptic to ovate-elliptic, apex acute to acuminate, base rounded to cordulate, margin entire to slightly serrulate, chartaceous, longitudinal nerves 3, with an additional, marginal pair, basal, sometimes up to 0.5 mm above the base, abaxial surface with dense, rough, brownish indument consisting of sessile-stellate to dendritic trichomes, ca. 0.3 mm diam. Panicles 6-21 x 3-11 cm, glomerulate, usually the glomerules so close to each other that looks like a spiguete, terminal, densely covered by sessile-stellate to dendritic trichomes, ca. 0.2 mm diam.; bracts and bracteoles lanceolate, up to 4.4 mm long, caducous. Flowers 4(5)-merous. Hypanthium 1.6-2.3 mm long, campanulate, inner surface glabrous, outer densely covered by a sessile-stellate to dendritic trichomes; torus glabrous. Calyx lobate, caducous in fruit, inner surface sparsely to moderately covered by sessile-stellate trichomes, outer densely covered by trichomes similar to the ones on the hypanthium; tube 0.4-0.5 mm long, inner lobes triangular, 0.1-0.3 mm long, outer teeth subulate. Petals 2.4-2.9 x 1.7 mm. Stamens white, isomorphic to slightly dimorphic; filaments 2.3-2.9 mm long, glabrous; connectives up to 0.7 mm prolonged below the thecae, unappendaged; anthers 1.4-1.9 mm long, oblong, with a single terminal, ventrally displaced, moderate pore, ca. 0.3 mm diam. Ovary 1.1-1.4 mm long, 1/2 adherent to the hypanthium, 2-3-locular, apex glabrous; style 3.8-4.2 mm long, straight to slightly curved, punctiform, glabrous. Fruits up to 2.1 x 2.3, orange, 2-4 seeds.

Habitat and Distribution: Miconia sclerophylla occurs in the Campos Rupestres os the Espinhaço Mountains Range, from Minas Gerais to Bahia states, from 1000 to 1610m asl. There is a curious report for an inselberg in Espírito Santo state.
