    Type: Brazil. Rio de Janeiro. Glaziou 8677 (syntypes: BR, G, K).

    Description: Shrub up to 2.5 m tall; young branches slightly flattened, with interpetiolar ridges, densely covered by flattened, sessile-stellate trichomes, ca. 0.1 mm diam. Leaves discolorous; petioles 0.6–1.2 cm; blades 5–8 x 1–2 cm, lanceolate, apex acuminate, base acute, margin entire, sometimes revolute, coriaceous, longitudinal nerves 3, supra-basal, up to 1.5 mm above the base, abaxial surface with a dense, canescent, indument consisting of sessile-stellate trichomes, ca. 0.1-0.2 mm diam. Panicles 1.7–4.7 x 1.2–1.6 cm, dichasial, terminal, few branched, with or without additional branches, densely covered by sessile-stellate trichomes, ca. 0.1-0.2 mm diam.; bracts and bracteoles caducous, not seen. Flowers 8-merous. Hypanthium 4.4 mm long, campanulate, inner surface glabrous, outer densely covered by sessile to stipitate-stellate trichomes, ca. 0.1 mm diam.; torus glabrous. Calyx lobate, caducous in fruit, inner surface moderately covered by simple to sessile-stellate trichomes, outer with trichomes similar to the ones on the hypanthium; tube 1.9 mm long, inner lobes 0.3-0.4 mm long, outer teeth subulate. Petals 5-6.8 x 4.3 mm. Stamens slightly dimorphic; filaments 3.3-4.8 mm long, glabrous; connectives not prolonged below the thecae, with two ventral lobes, moderately covered by sessile glands; anthers 2.9-3.5 mm long, oblong, with a single terminal, moderate pore, ca. 0.3 mm. Ovary 2 mm long, 1/2 adherent to the hypanthium, 4-locular, apex covered by sessile-stellate trichomes; style 5.3 mm long, straight to slightly curved, punctiform, glabrous. Immature fruits up to 5.7-6.9 mm, 6 seeds.

    Habitat and Distribution: Miconia penduliflora is endemic to the high mountains of Serra dos Órgãos, in Rio de Janeiro state, from about 1500 to 2000m asl.
