Type: Brazil. Rio de Janeiro: On the ascent of the Corcovado. Gardner 183 (syntypes: BM-2 sheets, E, G-2 sheets, K-2 sheets, NY-3 sheets, P, US, S].
Description: Trees up to 6 m tall; young branches slightly flattened, with no or just small interpetiolar ridges, densely covered by dendritic trichomes, usually aristate. Leaves slightly discolorous; petioles 0.7-3 cm, slightly flattened; blades 9.5-30 x 3-11 cm, lanceolate to elliptic-lanceolate, apex acuminate, base acute, margin entire to slightly repand, membranaceous, longitudinal nerves 3, with an additional, marginal pair, supra-basal, 2-5(15) mm above the base, abaxial surface moderately covered by sessile-stellate and dendritic trichomes, ca. 0.2 mm diam. Panicles 7-20 x 4-16 cm, glomerulate, terminal, densely covered by dendritic trichomes with long arms, ca. 0.1-0.2 mm diam.; bracts up to 4.7 mm long, lanceolate, late caducous; bracteoles up to 0.8 mm long, lanceolate, late caducous. Flowers (4)-5-merous. Hypanthium 1.4-2 mm long, campanulate, inner surface glabrous or with few, simple, small, ferrugineous trichomes, outer densely covered by sessile-stellate trichomes with long arms, ca. 0.2 mm diam.; torus sparse to moderately covered by simple, small, ferrugineous trichomes. Calyx lobate, persistent in fruit, inner surface completely glabrous or with the tube convered by sessile-stellate trichomes, outer surface covered by trichomes similar to the ones on the hypanthium; tube 0.2-0.6 mm long, inner lobes 0.1-0.4 mm long, triangular, outer teeth 0.1-0.5 mm long, subulate, longer or smaller than the inner ones. Petals 2.1-2.5 x 0.8-1.2 mm. Stamens white, isomorphic to slightly dimorphic; filaments 1.7-2.6 mm long, glabrous; connectives 0.4-0.5 mm prolonged below the thecae, unappendaged; anthers 1.3-1.6 mm long, oblong, with a single, terminal, ventrally displaced, small to moderate pore, ca. 0.2 mm. Ovary 0.7-1 mm long, 2/3 to completely adherent to the hypanthium, 3-4-locular, apex densely covered by stellate trichomes; style 2.1-6.2 mm long, straight to slightly curved, punctiform, glabrous. Fruits up to 3.1 x 3.1 mm diam., reddish to purple to black, 6-12 seeds.
Habitat and Distribution: Miconia fasciculata occurs in the coastal, wet forests, mainly in montane habitats, from Santa Catarina to Bahia states, from 30 to 660m asl.
