Type: Brazil. Minas Gerais: Caldas, Pedra Branca. Regnell II. 109 x (lectotype designed by Mayara K. Caddah, 2013: S, isolectotype: F).

Description: Trees up to 5 m tall; young branches flattened, interpetiolar ridges absent or tiny, densely covered by sessile-stellate and stipitate-stellate trichomes. Leaves discolorous; petioles 0.7-3 cm; blades 6-26 x 1.4-11 cm, elliptic to lanceolate, apex acuminate, base acute to rounded, margin serrulate in the two upper thirds, membranacous, longitudinal nerves 3, with an additional faint, marginal pair, basal or sometimes up 2 mm above the base, abaxial surface with a dense indument consisted of sessile-stellate trichomes, 0.1-0.2 mm diam. Panicles 5-12 x 4-10 cm, glomerulate, terminal, occasionally with accessory branches, densely covered by a canescent indumentum consisted of sessile-stellate, stipitate-stellate and dendritic trichomes ca. 0.1 mm diam.; bracts lanceolate, caducous, bracteoles linear, up to 1 mm, caducous. Flowers 5(6)-merous. Hypanthium 1.7-2.7 mm long, campanulate, inner surface glabrous, outer moderately to densely covered by sessile-stellate trichomes, ca. 0.1 mm diam., and pellucid granules; torus glabrous to moderately covered by stipitate-glandular trichomes. Calyx lobate, caducous in fruit, inner surface moderately covered by sessile-stellate trichomes, outer with trichomes similar to the ones on the hypanthium; tube 0.3-0.7 mm long, inner lobes 0.2-0.3 mm long, triangular, outer teeth ca. 0.1 mm, subulate. Petals 2-4.5 x 1.6-2.6 mm. Stamens white or yellow, slightly dimorphic; filaments 1.5-4.5 mm long, glabrous to moderately covered by stipitate-glandular trichomes; connectives not or up to 2 mm prolonged below the thecae, with a dorsal tooth and sometimes two tiny ventral lobes or a skirt-like appendage, glabrous to moderately covered by stipitate-glandular trichomes; anthers 1.3-3.2 mm long, oblong, with a single terminal, moderate pore, ca. 0.2 mm diam. Ovary 1-1.5 mm long, 1/2 to 2/3 adherent to the hypanthium, 3-4-locular, apex glabrous to moderately covered by sessile-stellate trichomes or small glands; style 3.3-8.2 mm long, straight to slightly curved, punctiform, glabrous to sparsely covered by stipitate-glandular trichomes. Fruits orange turning purple when completely mature, up to 5 x 4.5; 3-16 seeds.
