Description
Description: Epiphytic shrub with branches pendent to 2 m long; mature stems terete, the bark cracking longitudinally, grayish-brown when dry; twigs of new growth subterete, slightly striate, pubescent with scattered, caducous multicellular, multiseriate glandular hairs to 0.3-0.4 mm long, drying stramineous. Leaves coriaceous, ovate, (4-)5-11 x 2.5-4 cm, basally rounded and subcordate, apically acuminate, marginally entire, provided with caducous scattered glandular hairs (as on twigs) on both surfaces but especially beneath; 5-plinerved from the base, midrib and inner pair of lateral nerves impressed above and raised and conspicuous beneath, outer pair of lateral nerves and reticulate veinlets slightly raised on both surfaces but obscure beneath; petioles subterete, sulcate adaxially, rugose, 3-5 mm long, with caducous glandular hairs. Inflorescence solitary, axillary, racemose, 8-30-flowered; rachis bluntly angled, glabrous, 2-7 cm long, red when fresh; floral bracts caducous, membranaceous, striate, ovate-lanceolate, ca. 10-12.5 mm long, red when fresh; pedicels angled, gradually expanding distally then abruptly expanded at the apex, 20-40 mm long, red when fresh, moderately pubescent with ferrugineous, multicellular, multiseriate, capitate-glandular hairs ca. 0.5 mm long; bracteoles basal, membranaceous, striate, ovate-elliptic, acute, 4-5 mm long, marginally ciliate with glandular hairs as on pedicels, red when fresh. Flowers with calyx 5-7.5 mm long, bright red when fresh, weakly pubescent with glandular hairs; hypanthium cylindric, 5-ribbed, ca. 2.7-3.5 mm long, basally apophysate, the margin of the apophysis undulate; limb cylindric-campanulate, 3-4 mm long including the lobes; lobes broadly triangular, acute, 1-1.5 mm long, marginally densely glandular pubescent; sinuses broadly rounded; corolla cylindric, slightly constricted distally, ca. 32 mm long, rose-pink in the lower 1/2 and white in the upper 1/2 when fresh, the distal half provided with capitate-glandular hairs to 1 mm long, the lobes broadly triangular, obtuse, completely reflexed at anthesis along with ca. 0.5 mm of the distal margin of the corolla tube proper; stamens 10, alternately 7.5-8 and 9.5-10 mm long; filaments connate in the lower 3/4, alternately 6-6.5 and 7.5-8 mm long, pilose ventrally in the free portion; anthers equal, ca. 2.8-3 mm long including the tubules; thecae 1.8-2 mm long; dehiscence by terminal pores; style ca. 34-37 mm long, glabrous. Berry globose, ca. 11 mm diam., dark blue-black when fresh.
