(1837) 247 (vaf. nov;); ed. 2 (1845) 173; ed. 3, 1 (1877) 311= MUSA TEXTILIS Néè (M. abaca Perr.), This species presents considerable variation, is widely dis- tributed in the Philippines, and in many provinces and islands is extensively cultivated for its fiber, abaca or Manila hemp of commerce.
