  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Unable to find the precise location of "Base camp;" instead, georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of Paka-paka, along Saramacca Rivier in Sipaliwini, Suriname, treating the locality as a Near a Feature (Biogeomancer Guide to Best Practices for Georeferencing). Used Google Maps - Earth View to locate the village of Paka-paka. Used the Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of Paka-paka. Because the spatial extent of Paka-paka is not defined on Google Maps, used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the approximate geographic center of the nearest named place on the same side of the Saramacca River, Warnakomoponafaja, then halving this distance (599.0 m). According to Biogeomancer Guide to Best Practices for Georeferencing, locality type: Near a Feature, the linear extent should be calculated as the greater of 2 km or 200% of the linear extent of the named place, so in this case used 200% of the linear extent (11980.0 m). Input coordinates, coordinate precision (.00001 degrees), datum (WGS84), linear extent (11980.0 m), and measurement error (5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Biogeomancer Guide to Best Practices for Georeferencing, Near a Feature).
