Description
Tree, 15 m x 100 cm. Abundantly flowering, tree of same species next to it sterile, beginning to lose leaves, another with many leaves already gone. When young, petals purple fringed with white, hood darker purple with yellow stamens and staminodes; flowers fading nearly to white then falling, lightly fragrant with odor similar to Syringa vulgaris but somewhat sharper. The abundant faded rotting flowers littering ground giving off sweet fragrance and attracting more small pollen gathering bees than living flowers. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
