  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the shore of Estirão do Equador, along Rio Javari (synonymous with Rio Yavari) in Amazonas, Brazil. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the city of Estirão do Equador. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the shore of the city. Because Estirão do Equador does not have defined spatial boundaries, used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure from the selected coordinates to the geographic center of the shore of the nearest named place along Rio Javari (within Brazil), Communidad Rural de Açaizal, then halved this distance to approximate the linear extent of the shoreline of the city of Estirão do Equador. Input coordinates, linear extent (65814 m.), and measurement error (1 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius. Site is approximately 180 km. due west of the mouth of Rio Javari (confluence of Rio Javari and Rio Solimões).
