Description
Tree, 15 m x 20 cm. Bark with shallow-vertical cracks, inner bark yellow. Flowers nocturnal, none open in tree at 4:30 p.m., large bud taken back to camp opened at 6:05 p.m. and continued to open for oven an hour, abundant nectar secreted from hood, large pool of accumulated nectar at 7:05. Necater reaings of 7.2, 7.4, & 7.8. Tastes slightly sweet. Flower emits strong odor comparable to rotting vegetables. Flower 6 cm diam. Hypanthium and calyx dark ruby (12-F8), outside of petals two shades of red (11-D8 wine red and 12-E8 ruby), inside of petals, entire hood (including hood appendages minus the anthers) and filaments white, right and hood anthers yellow (3-A6) style purplish-red (13-A7), stigma white. At trail Q-4. Petals and androecium fell at 8:10 a.m., 24 July. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
