Description
Tree, 18 m x 16.2 cm. Tree # 3378 in quadrant 20.5. Hypanthium and calyx deep sine red, outside of petals reds, inside white, hood, hood appendages, and filaments white, hood anthers and ring anthers yellow. Leaves lax, not fully lignified, new twigs and axes of inflorescence red. Flowers are open at ca. 1930 h. Bat seen to visit flower at 1955 h, several other bats came into the crown but were not observed entering the flowers. Only three flowers open in entire tree. When this plant was first discovered in flower, as many as 10 flowers may have been on the ground. Flower 65 mm (anterior-posterior) x 60 mm wide. Abundant nectar secreted in the hood. Flower with unpleasant smell of rotting cabbage. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
