    mid-elevation oak forest. mixed forest with Quercus oocarpa. Gregarious. On soil.

  • Description

    Pileus 4-7.5 cm broad, convex to plano-convex, dry, tomentose becoming appressed tomentose, with even margin, bronze brown (5E5) to dark brown or cocoa brown (6E-F7-6) when young, these colors disappearing with age and becoming grayish brown (6E5). Flesh white, changing to pale pink when exposed, 1-3 cm thick, with mild odor and taste. Tubes adnate, up to 8 mm long, white when young, becoming near (4A2) with age, staining pale brown when exposed; pores concolorous, 2-3/mm, staining pinkish brown when bruised. Stipe 5-10 cm long, 8-40 mm broad, dry, reticulate above, subridged below, white, staining brown when bruised, with white mycelium at base; interior solid, white, staining as in pileus.
