Costa Rica. Cartago. ±4.5 km E of km 31 of Interamerican Highway near town of Palo Verde.

Submontane forest. Quercus oocarpa & Quercus sp. Gregarious. On soil.

Description
Pileus 4-6.5 cm broad, plano-convex to plane, dry, black to gray, matted subtomentose to subvelutinous, becoming finely areolate. Flesh white staining pale reddish orange then black, up to 1 cm thick, with mild odor and taste. Tubes adnate, up to 12 mm long, pale pinkish buff at first becoming light gray, staining reddish orange then black when exposed, with pores staining likewise, <=1 mm broad. Stipe 6-8 cm long, 12-15 mm broad, ±equal to tapering toward base, dry, reticulate to coarsely reticulate at least half the length, pale gray at apex, dark gray to black toward base, with interior as in pileus. Phenology of specimen: Basidiomata.
