Panama. Coclé. Trail along continental divide to the E at Los Volteaderos, ca. 12.4 km N of La Pintada along road to Coclecito.

Habitat
Primary forest at summit of cerro with Colpothrinax, Melastomataceae, Eugenia, Bromeliaceae and Ericaceae. Common, but none in flower and only one fruit seen.

Description
Coarse terrestrial or epiphytic shrub to 3 m; at top common. Leaves very thick coriaceous, revolute at base. Berry purplish-violet. Common but none in flower and only one fruit seen. [pickled fruit].
