Leaves opposite and decussate, with long domatia at base of leaf and on petiole* With long red hairs, sparse tout more especially at the nodes. Inflorescence usually terminal. Calyx tube green, with five lobes each represented as one, two or three small thorn-like hairs, red-brown in colour. Corolla pink or white, to orange. Fruit pink at first, later becoming black.
