  • Description

Pileus 6 cm broad, plane, dry, finely areolate, grayish brown (6E5-4). Flesh white, 7 mm thick, erratically and slowly changing to blue when exposed, then very slowly pale brown. Tubes 13 mm long, adnate to depressed around the stipe, grayish brown (near 6E4), changing to blue green when bruised; pores 1-2 mm broad, pastel green (near 30A4), bluing when bruised. Stipe 5 cm long, 1 cm broad, equal and curved, grayish brown (6E5-4), dry, matted subtomentose to appressed fibrillose, paler to near white at base; interior white slowly pale brown. Found on roadbank, so tubes not entirely vertical. A mature specimen, but does not show the typical change to red in the flesh after exposure---perhaps due to age. Stains wax paper bluegreen.
