W Madagascar, Mahajanga (Majunga) Province,
Lake Ampijoroa, Ampijoroa Forest Station, near
Ankarafantsika Reserve, E of Mahajanga.

Cleared forested area with planted Eucalyptus, some
large trees remaining, on red lateritic soil.

Tree to c. 25 m tall; trunk light grey, smooth
branched higher up. Leaves with 7-9 alternate
leaflets; leaflets deep green, glossy above, paler
beneath, subcoriaceous. Fruits few, terminal, flat,
single-seeded, with a raised area over the seed and a
broad leathery wing around.
VERNACULAR NAMES: “Voambona”, “Manary”.
LOCAL USES: Strong wood used for doors and
furniture.
