In the valley of the Hanapepe river, Kauai, this species is
-common. habitj it is - trailing rather than climbing. The
tems are numerous, twining and interlacing, so as to form an
•impenetrable clump three or'four feet high. The stems and
branches are pubescefct, yrith short, tawny hairs, and provided
with numerous prickles, which curve downward. The leaf-
1 ts are comparatively | narrow; acute, and pubescent beneath*
