V Laselase, Nadroga Province BREADFRUIT OF THE PACIFIC ISLANDS Kulu dina MORACEAE | Artocarpus (Parkinson) Fosberg Fiji Viti Levu Island Josefa Lalabalavu’s yard near railroad tracks. Fruits round with a long stalk. Smooth with persistent green stigma. No seeds. Leaves deeply dissected with 4-5 pairs of widely separated lobes. Smooth, dark, glossy blade with green-yellow veins. Profuse long white hairs on upper veins. Ethnobotany - Dina means “true” breadfruit. In Nadroga and Ba provinces breadfruit is known as kulu. Known as uto elsewhere in Fiji. Fruits November-May, matures March-April. Excellent cultivar and considered best for eating. Can last up to one week after harvest.
