st BREADFRUIT OF THE PACIFIC ISLANDS Momolega MORACEAE Artocarpus altilis Parkinson (Fosberg) Samoa Savai’i Island Saipipi Village Tavana family compound. 100 m inland from ocean, NE oceanside corner of fale Samoa. Fruits small, round (9.5x9 cm), similar in size to a baseball, with short stalk inserted into very distinctive neck of one row of elongated sections with heavy scabbing around the stalk. Smooth with very distinctive sections with star-shaped scar in center and heavy scabbing between each section. Flesh solid, yellow with small core (5.5 cm); no latex or discoloration when cut. Full, mostly mature fruits on tree.Large, symmetrical leaves, shallowly dissected with four pairs of lobes with undulate margins. Dark, dull, brittle, smooth blade with yellow-green veins.Many short white hairs on upper veins, underside rough.
