cultivation.
Forest near Hell's Gate, moist soil, partly shaded by
trees.
Herb, up to 2 m high. Stem liht green, slightly shiny,
enclosed by similar coloured sheats. Leafblade
coriacious, dark green above, lower side pale green;
central vein light green. Bracts thin, whitish, strongly
glaucous; perigone pale pinkish red; staminodes and
pistil red, one staminode red with small yellow spots;
anthers light brown. Unripe fruit obovoid with
transparant warts. Perigone and bracts persistent,
fading to light brown.
