Curcuma longa Linnaeus, Spec. Plant., 2,1753.
Erect, leafy, herbaceous plant. Leaves elliptic-oblong, 30 or more cm. long, acuminate,
petiole about as long as blade. Flowers in a terminal, short-stemmed spike, yellowish,
bracts greenish. Rhizome deep yellow, aromatic.
Occasional near dwellings (9990). A yellow dye is obtained from the
rhizome. English name, turmeric; native name, ago.
