Campamento "Monte Viruela",(Lat. lO°25'caJ3" N, Long, 72052'ca.^2" W),
on tepui-like limestone massif 5 x 2„5 km, on internetional boundary,
covered with areas of highly eroded bare rock, crevasse areas, cliffs,
and funnel-shaped sinkholes; drainage all subterranean; soil brownish-
black, rather impervious, to 2 dm deep; the natural vegetation ot low
forest (to 10m), Hyper icum-scrub(to 2 m), and areas ot wet and dry mea-
dows, with much mounding of Sphagnum (to 5-6 dm) around bases of shrubs
and bambuslllo1; entirely burned over in early 197*4 save for small
patches of forest, almost all Hypericum (1 sp„) killed; great abundance
of grasses due to complete absence of cattle to date; in general little
flowering of woody plants during visit; temperatures from	with
much fog, rain, and occasional hail during the day; Distrito Maracaibo,
Estado Zulia; ca. 3100 m elev..
