U.S.A. Georgia: Savannah: U.S.D.A. Plant Introduction
Station. Cultivated. Wooded area where F.A. McClure's
1942 introductions were planted. Culms in small clumps
scattered from one another in light shade of tall pine
trees. New culms already well developed. Culms 3-4 m
tall with a chambered pith, crooked (zig-zag), dark green,|
appressed-puberulent, thin-walled, weak, with a ring of
hairs around the nodes. Culm leaves falling entire:
sheath stramineous with a violet hue toward the base;
ligule short, truncate, glabrous. Foliage dark green.
