Georgia: Savannah, Barbour Lathrop Plant Introduction
Garden (USPA). Cultivated; PI 76648, introduced from
Kwangsi Province, China in 1926. Culms 5-6 m high and
1.5-2.5 cm in diam., very straight, rather smooth-jointed.
The young culms have pith, and in the mature culms remnants
of the pith diaphragms persist. Internodes are medium in
thickness. Branches upright in fascicles at the nodes
and with thick leaves. The smallest culms are used to
make Chinese pens, and the larger ones are used as clothes
drying poles.
