Mixed forest on brown sand, with Chlorocardium rodiei,
Swartzia leiocalycina, Dipteryx sp., Dicymbe sp. (MP
618), Licania alba.
Tree, 20 m tall, dbh 0.5 m. Base somewhat swollen. Bark
light grey-brown, rough, cracked. Cracks horizontal and
vertical,very densely arranged, 0.5-1 (-5) x 0.1-0.2 cm.
Dead bark 2-3 mm thick, ochrous-brown, hard. Living bark
10-50 mm thick, pink-brown, mottled with orange-brown,
brittle, aromatic, scented somewhat pepper-like. Sapwood
light brown, heartwood dark orange-brown. Twigs fine
grey-brown hairy when young. Leaves shiny light green
above, glaucous grey-green below. Twigs with red, clear
sap.
