Huge sand island, now at lowest water level of the year, with no permanent vegetation, only a few annuals and waifs on driftwood. Growing in soil among buttress woods of large tree trunk in driftwood and probably came with it from the Andes; a quartzite pebble in place, 5 cm. long, indicates it could not be from the lowlands.
